17 Tornadoes STRIKE Heartland During Multi Day Outbreak

A multi-day tornado outbreak claimed eight lives across the Heartland, with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer declaring a State of Emergency as communities face widespread destruction from at least 17 confirmed tornadoes.

Michigan Communities Hardest Hit

The Branch County Sheriff’s Office identified three victims killed in southwest Michigan: William Andrew Akers, Keri Ann Johnson, and Penni Jo Guthrie, all aged between 54 and 65. All three were recovered in the Prairie Road Lane and Tuttle Road Drive area, which sustained the heaviest damage. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office identified 12-year-old Silas Anderson as the fourth Michigan victim. Authorities reported Anderson missing during the severe weather before finding him injured. He later died in a hospital.

Governor Whitmer toured the devastated counties with Michigan State Police on Sunday. The tornado outbreak spawned at least 17 tornadoes between Thursday and Saturday, ranging from EF-0 to EF-3 intensity. In Union Lake, Michigan, one mobile home was thrown nearly 100 yards by the powerful winds. FOX Weather Meteorologist Haley Meier surveyed an EF-3 tornado’s path through Union City, where roofs were ripped off buildings and debris scattered across the landscape.

Devastation Spreads Across Multiple States

On Thursday, a mother and daughter were killed during the severe weather outbreak in Major County, Oklahoma. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt visited affected areas on Sunday, assessing damage as residents began cleanup efforts. FOX Weather Correspondent Robert Ray documented extensive damage throughout Tulsa. One Oklahoma resident described hearing debris smacking her house before she knew she needed to run for safety. Several schools across Oklahoma sustained significant damage and remain closed.

In Illinois, powerful storms knocked recreational vehicles on their sides and scattered debris across power lines. Marion County, Texas, declared a disaster due to tornado activity that injured multiple people and damaged property throughout the community. Emergency crews continue responding to widespread devastation as the severe weather season begins.

Rebuilding Efforts Begin

The National Weather Service continues surveying the outbreak’s aftermath, with additional tornadoes possibly awaiting confirmation. Communities across the affected states face the daunting task of rebuilding homes and lives destroyed in just three days of severe weather. Emergency management teams coordinate relief efforts while residents sort through the rubble of their former homes and businesses.
