Border Patrol Chief ABRUPTLY RESIGNS After MASSIVE SECURITY CLAIMS

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks resigned from his position after declaring the agency successfully transformed from the nation’s least secure border operation to its most secure under his leadership during the second Trump administration.

From Crisis to Control: Banks’ Assessment

Banks told Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin that after 37 years in law enforcement and military service, he felt confident leaving the Border Patrol in better condition than he found it. “I feel like I got the ship back on course from the least secure, disastrous, chaotic border to the most secure border this country has ever seen,” Banks stated. He cited his desire to spend time with family as the primary reason for stepping down now.

A Career Built on Frontline Experience

The outgoing chief grew up in Warner Robins, Georgia, raised primarily by his grandmother while his single mother struggled to support his two older half-sisters. Banks worked alongside migrant farmworkers picking peaches during summers and school years to help pay household bills. That experience shaped his approach to border security, giving him what he described as deep humility and compassion for families trying to survive.

Banks enlisted in the military at 17 and served a decade in combat and peacetime roles before joining the Border Patrol in 2000. Over 23 years with the agency, he held leadership positions across multiple specialized units including horse patrol, boat operations, tunnel teams, and investigations. His hands-on experience covered nearly every aspect of border enforcement operations.

Frustration, Retirement, and Return

Banks initially retired from the Border Patrol during the Biden administration, citing frustration over what he called the destruction of agency morale and border security. He went to work for the state of Texas but watched conditions deteriorate further from outside the agency. When President Trump returned to office, Banks came back to lead the Border Patrol through what he viewed as a critical rebuilding period. The White House, Department of Homeland Security, and Customs and Border Protection did not immediately comment on his departure or succession plans.
