However, most Senate Republicans back Thune’s approach. Texas Senator John Cornyn, who lost his primary to a Trump-backed challenger, said staying in session would accomplish nothing. “We keep overpromising and underdelivering, which is not a recipe for voter morale or high voter participation in the midterm elections,” Cornyn stated. North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis confirmed the majority of Republicans support Thune’s position.
