Biden WASTES Half Million Destroying Scout Research Project

The Biden administration destroyed a Boy Scout research balloon over Lake Huron with a $500,000 missile after panicking in the aftermath of the Chinese spy balloon debacle, according to newly released Pentagon files and former defense officials.

Pentagon Scrambled After Chinese Spy Balloon Embarrassment

An F-16 fighter jet fired what was likely an AIM-9 Sidewinder missile at the harmless balloon on February 12, 2023, obliterating it in seconds. Video released last month by the Department of War shows the black orb with a dangling string in the fighter’s crosshairs before being blown apart. The Boy Scout balloon had already circled the globe eight times before meeting its expensive demise.

Sean Kirkpatrick, former head of the federal All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office, confirmed the target belonged to a Boy Scout troop conducting an unspecified research project. Tim Phillips, a former interim director at AARO, told The Post that military commanders were shooting at every unidentified object they detected. The overreaction came just one week after the Biden administration spent five days watching a Chinese Communist Party surveillance balloon traverse American airspace before finally taking action.

Military Shot Down Multiple Hobby Balloons

The Boy Scout balloon was not the only harmless object destroyed in the military’s trigger-happy response. On February 11, 2023, another hobbyist balloon was shot down over Alaska. In a separate incident, a fighter pilot received authorization to fire on what appeared to be a UFO with stealth capabilities. The target turned out to be a star-shaped mylar balloon from Walmart that read Happy Birthday, according to Kirkpatrick.

Former officials revealed that many supposed UFO videos produced by the military show standard manmade objects misidentified by drone operators. Phillips explained that bored Reaper drone operators returning to base often spot unfamiliar objects and file reports. The Pentagon has since increased education efforts to help operators better identify common objects before raising alarms.

Costly Overreaction To Foreign Surveillance

Kirkpatrick described briefing Congress about the Boy Scout balloon incident and the predictable response from lawmakers about wasting taxpayer money. The half-million-dollar missile strike on a research balloon highlights the massive overcorrection that followed legitimate criticism of the administration’s slow response to actual Chinese surveillance operations. The combination of failed initial response and subsequent overreaction demonstrates a dangerous pattern of reactionary decision-making rather than measured threat assessment in protecting American airspace.
