Watchdog BLOWS OPEN Teacher Dues FUELING Political Machine

A comprehensive watchdog report reveals the nation’s two largest teachers unions have funneled over $1 billion into progressive political causes and Democratic campaigns, raising urgent questions about how member dues are being spent and whether educators are aware their money funds far-left activism.

Billion-Dollar Political Operation Revealed

Defending Education released a detailed analysis tracking spending by the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers, along with their state affiliates. The investigation used federal filings and campaign finance records to expose what researchers call a vast political machine. More than $85 million went directly to Democratic Party organizations at federal, state, and local levels, not counting individual candidate contributions. Research Director Rhyen Staley told reporters these entities function as political operations, not traditional labor advocates focused on wages and working conditions.

Progressive Groups Receive Massive Funding

The unions directed tens of millions to major Democratic political committees, including Senate Majority PAC and House Majority PAC. The State Engagement Fund received over $60 million, while For Our Future Action Fund and affiliates collected more than $40 million. Recipients included Color of Change, Indivisible, National Center for Transgender Equality, Planned Parenthood, Sixteen Thirty Fund, New Venture Fund, and Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The report documents funding for climate initiatives, ballot campaigns opposing school choice, and gender activism programs.

Educators Left in the Dark

Defending Education President Nicole Neily characterized the spending as a betrayal of teacher interests. She argued educators expect their dues to advocate for increased pay and improved working environments, not fund abortion advocacy, climate change initiatives, and progressive politicians. Teacher Freedom Alliance CEO Ryan Walters previously warned the unions seek to turn students against America. The revelations arrive as unions prepare for May Day protests, which observers describe as major political organizing efforts. Neither the NEA nor AFT provided comment when contacted about the findings.
