Crime DROPS 36% — 12K Arrested

A federally coordinated law enforcement operation in Memphis has driven crime down 36 percent since its launch one year ago, with murders dropping 35 percent and more than 12,000 arrests recorded, according to data reviewed by Fox News Digital.

Task Force Delivers Dramatic Results

The Memphis Safe Task Force, established through a presidential memorandum signed by President Donald Trump on September 15, 2025, deployed National Guard personnel alongside federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. The operation has resulted in more than 12,000 arrests and the seizure of 2,100 illegal firearms. Motor vehicle thefts plummeted 57 percent year over year, while robberies fell 43 percent and aggravated assaults declined 27 percent, officials confirmed.

White House spokesperson Lauren Bis told Fox News Digital the task force restored law and order to a city failed by soft-on-crime policies. Burglaries dropped 27 percent while shoplifting decreased 44 percent, according to crime statistics. Overall crime in Memphis fell 28 percent in 2025 compared to 2024, marking significant improvement before the current year’s additional declines.

Intervention Targets Violent Crime Crisis

Memphis confronted one of America’s most severe violent crime problems when the task force launched, with FBI data showing the city held the highest violent crime rate nationwide in 2024. Homicides had surged to 397 in 2023 from 301 the previous year, according to Justice Department figures. The intervention came as Memphis, a Democratic-leaning city in Republican Tennessee, struggled with crime levels that spiked during 2020 coronavirus lockdowns and subsequent protests.

Recent prosecutions include Memphis resident Darian Glover, convicted in August of distributing fentanyl that caused three fatal overdoses. One victim believed he purchased cocaine, but testing revealed fentanyl. The Justice Department sentenced Courtney Trenell to 15 years in prison for serving as getaway driver in two bank robberies and participating in a conspiracy to rob six Memphis-area banks.

Part of Broader Federal Strategy

The Memphis operation represents part of a wider Trump administration strategy deploying federal law enforcement resources to cities facing elevated violent crime. The administration has launched similar federal law enforcement surges in Washington, D.C., where officials report sharp crime declines. Retired Chicago Police Chief of Detectives Eugene Roy pointed to Memphis as a model, telling Fox News Digital that local leaders in other cities refuse federal assistance despite deepening officer shortages.
