Caitlyn Jenner revealed she personally contacted President Trump seeking help after his administration’s passport policy left her unable to travel internationally, creating what she described as a major safety concern for herself and thousands of other Americans.
Policy Creates Travel Barrier
The former Olympic champion and Republican supporter disclosed during an interview with conservative commentator Tomi Lahren that she can no longer use her passport for international travel. After renewing her passport following the Trump administration’s November 2025 policy change, Jenner received a document marked with an “M” sex designation instead of the “F” that had appeared on all her previous travel documents since her 2015 transition. “What do I do? This is a safety factor,” Jenner explained, noting the mismatch between her appearance and identification creates serious problems at border crossings.
The Supreme Court permitted the passport restriction in an emergency ruling last November, implementing a policy that limits sex markers to designations matching biological sex at birth. The policy emerged from President Trump’s January 2025 executive order declaring the United States recognizes only two sexes: male and female. Jenner wrote directly to Trump explaining how the regulation affects her and others, but said she has not received a response. “He’s kind of busy right now. My gender marker is not big on the issue,” Jenner said, adding she does not blame the president and continues to support him.
Safety Concerns And Legal Challenges
Research from Advocates for Trans Equality found that 22 percent of 84,000 surveyed transgender adults reported harassment, assault, or denial of services when identification documents did not match their lived gender identity. Human Rights Watch warned the passport policy could increase discrimination risks for Americans traveling abroad. Jenner suggested the policy was not fully considered before implementation, noting potential complications for voting and other activities requiring identification. Despite being one of America’s most prominent transgender figures through her athletic career and Kardashian family connections, Jenner has opposed many LGBTQ advocacy positions, including speaking against transgender athletes in women’s sports and gender-affirming care for minors.
What This Means
The passport situation highlights unintended consequences of the administration’s broader policies targeting transgender issues, which also include restrictions on military service, gender-affirming youth care, and sports participation. Legal challenges to the passport policy remain active in federal courts. Jenner’s public appeal demonstrates how executive policies can create practical complications even for supporters of the administration, raising questions about implementation of sweeping regulatory changes affecting thousands of Americans with previously issued documentation.
