Kaitlyn Tracey pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of simple assault, a misdemeanor, during a phone hearing from a Texas ICE detention facility. She received a sentence of one day in jail, credited as time served from her previous detention in Ocean County last month. As part of her plea agreement, Tracey was ordered deported to Canada immediately. The Department of Homeland Security had labeled her the “Maple Leaf Menace” during proceedings related to her immigration violations and criminal charges.

The incident occurred July 3 on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach, where Tracey confronted a group of four teenagers. One teen wore a USA 250 tank top celebrating America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. After arguing with the group, Tracey slapped the teen across the face in an assault captured on video by witnesses. Local police arrested her shortly after the attack, and immigration officials discovered she had overstayed her visa and was residing in the United States illegally at the time of her arrest.
