FBI Director Kash Patel revealed during Senate testimony Tuesday that his agency achieved an unprecedented milestone by capturing all 10 fugitives on the FBI’s Most Wanted list, marking the first time in Bureau history this feat has been accomplished.

During his appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Patel corrected Chairman Chuck Grassley’s opening remarks that had praised the FBI for capturing nine of the ten most wanted fugitives. The director announced that agents had apprehended the tenth fugitive just days earlier during a weekend operation in Venezuela. The captured individual had evaded law enforcement for years before being taken into custody and returned to the United States.

The FBI later identified the final capture as Anibal Alexander Canelon Aguirre, whom the Bureau designated as its first-ever cyber fugitive. According to the FBI, Aguirre orchestrated a sophisticated international conspiracy that stole millions of dollars from financial institutions through an ATM jackpotting scheme. The criminal operation reportedly provided financial support to Tren de Aragua, operating since at least 2024.

Record Performance Under Current Administration

Patel emphasized the FBI’s enhanced effectiveness during President Trump’s second term, stating his agency captured more than two and a half times the number of top 10 most wanted fugitives compared to the previous administration. Beyond the most wanted list, Patel announced that FBI agents also apprehended six of the top 10 fraudsters on a newly created most wanted fraudsters list established during the current administration.

The director outlined broader public safety improvements under the Trump administration’s law enforcement initiatives. He cited a 20-point reduction in the national murder rate and highlighted specific city achievements. Baltimore reached its lowest mid-year homicide numbers in recorded history, while Memphis saw a 50 percent reduction in homicides despite previously having the highest per capita murder rate nationally. Washington, D.C. is tracking toward its lowest homicide numbers since 1990.

Patel attributed the success to coordinated efforts among federal, state, local, and international law enforcement partners. He specifically mentioned the president’s task force as instrumental in achieving the dramatic crime reduction in Memphis. The director emphasized that reducing violent crime by such significant margins requires comprehensive teamwork across multiple jurisdictions and agencies working toward common objectives.
